If you want to unblock US websites for use in the UK then you need an American IP-address. This is very easy to setup and I will show you how.

Whatever your reason for needing an American IP-address the remedy is the same: A Virtual Private Network also known as a VPN. When you connect to this type of network your computer will inherit and IP-address from the server you are connecting to. As a result you will appear to be located in the US while you are in fact still in the UK. The data between you and the server will become and encrypted and this adds an extra layer of security.

Setting Up VPN From the UK

Setting up VPN is very straightforward. Since I personally I use Unlocator I will be using them for this example. A VPN charges a small monthly fee, which in my opinion is well worth it. Once signed up simply download the application and install it – works on both PC , Mac, iPad, iPhone or Android.

Once installed open the application and input your Unlocator account info. Then simply select a server located in the US from the location overview and click connect. The application will then create the secure connection to the server and your machine will inherit a new IP-address based in the US. From that moment on you can continue your surfing and any website or program you use will think you are located in the US.

You can of course also select any other location in the app. So if you are british expat abroad you can select a UK server to get access to BBC iPlayer and so on.

That is all there is to it and as you can imagine this is a very handy trick if you want to unblock websites etc. Happy surfing.
