So now the movie rentals have come to the Android Market, it would be nice to be able to rent these movies even though you are not in the US right? Good thing then that we have a trick up our sleeves enabling you to do just that.

See the Android Market will check your IP address when you try to get access. Once they see you have a non-US address they will turn you away. So in order to get around that we need to obtain a US based IP address. The way to do that is by connecting to a Virtual Private Network.

See a VPN will enable you to connect to a US based server that will route your entire data trough the US. That way the Android Market will not know that you are located outside the US and thus allow you to stream. It might sound complicated but it really is not.

Setting up the VPN

Setting up VPN on an android device differs from phone to phone, but often you have to go to Settings > Wireless & networks > VPN settings or something of that nature and add the settings.

So Where do You Get These Settings?

In order to connect to a VPN server you need to get an account at a VPN provider. Before you run away screaming let me tell you it is actually pretty cheap. At Unlocator for example you can get the 6 or 12 months package that is by far both the fastest and cheapest provider available. With this connection you can unblock too and many other services. It is well worth it in my opinion and I kinda like the added security I get from using VPN as well.
