Amazon Instant Video is a great video on demand offering from Amazon. The service is only available in the US so if you want to watch Amazon Instant Video in the UK you need to use the following trick.
First of all you need an Amazon Prime Account
Why do I need a Prime Account? Well the problem is that if you just buy each movie or show one off Amazon can detect that your credit card is not an American credit card. If you instead create an Amazon Prime Account you can use a credit card from the UK. Simply use a fakeUS address and make sure you don’t ship any items to this address and set the address as your 1-click address. You will now be able to stream Unlocatoroimited content via your new Amazon Prime Instant Video Account – but hold on.
Hide your UK Location to Watch Amazon Instant Video
See the problem is that even though you now have an account Amazon is still able to detect your location. If you try to watch a video from the UK you will see a window saying:” We have detected that you are not located within the US. Due to licensing restrictions Amazon Instant Video customers must be located in the United States when viewing videos online.” All you need to get around this problem is get an American IP-address.
You do this by connecting to a Virtual Private Network also known as VPN. I prefer using Unlocator as they have servers located all over the US and this makes them a perfect match for our needs. Once signed up with Unlocator go ahead and install the application on either your Mac or PC – from then on it is simply a matter of selecting a server in the US from the list and clicking connect. After a little while you will now have your UK IP-address replaced by an American one and you can now watch Amazon Instant Videos as if you were located in the US – pretty cool right?
If you want to watch Amazon Instant Video on your PlayStation from the UK you need to use a router to connect to VPN. It is the same method as used for watching US on a PlayStation outside the US. That is why you can read my article and use the same method for Amazon Instant Video.
