So you have gotten yourself a brand new Netflix account now that Netflix has launched in Norway, and you are in no way satisfied with the amount of content you have access to. Well you are not alone, as a lot of Norwegians have expressed their disappointment with the selection available from Netflix in Norway – thankfully though there is away for you to access the full US Netflix catalogue using your Norwegian Netflix account.
The trick here is that your Norwegian Netflix account works just the same as the American counterpart – in fact they are identical. What determines the content you have access to is your location, which Netflix will check when you interact with Netflix. They use your computers IP address to find out what content to serve up. By faking your location your can access US Netflix from Norway.
All you need to do in order to make Netflix think you are located in the US is faking your IP address. Simply connect to a Virtual Private Network (VPN) with a server located in the US and in return you will inherit an American IP address.
Personally I prefer using Hide My Ass VPN and their custom VPN application for Mac and PC. Once signed up simply install the application and select a VPN server from one of the many American cities on the list. Once you click connect the application will establish and encrypted connection to the VPN server and exchange your current IP address with an American one.
Then simply reload the Netflix website and instead of the standard Norwegian content you will now see the US content instead. If you like you can also get the UK, Canadian or Latin American content by connecting to a VPN server on one of these regions instead. In other words you can access all content available on the global Netflix network worldwide. Pretty awesome right?
If you want you can also use VPN on your mobile devices as well by using the build in VPN client that comes installed with these. Log into your account on the Hide My Ass VPN website and follow the instructions – it is pretty straightforward.
