Netflix is a US only service and as such it is not available in South Africa. However, by using the following little trick you can get access to all the Netflix content as if you were in the States.
See Netflix will take a look at your IP address when you try to sign up for Netflix or use an existing account while in South Africa. The IP address is a dead give away of your location so what you need to do is get an American IP address in order to fool Netflix.
VPN to the Rescue
The best way to get around this issue is to use a Virtual Private Network also known as VPN. This will allow you to connect to a server in the US that will act as a middleman between you and Netflix. The result being that Netflix will think you are located in the US and allow you to both sign up for the service as well as stream from it.
The right VPN to Unblock Netflix from South Africa
So you would think than any old VPN provider would do the trick. The problem however is that not all VPN providers are created equal. I found this out the hard way when I first started 
out and signed up for one provider after the other. They were able to spoof my location, but they did not have the bandwidth needed to provide a good quality stream from Netflix.
Then I started digging in the forums and found Hide My Ass VPN. They have a different approach to VPN as they have made an app for both Mac and PC that will allow you to select where in the US you want to hide, and as a bonus you can test out the speeds you are getting between you and each of the server. Before you run away screaming all you have to do is install the app, run it and select where in the US you want to hide. That is all there is to it.
Then when you are connected you can go ahead and sign up for Netflix and then just remember to remain connected while watching Netflix. So there you have it – all you need to know if you want to watch Netflix in South Africa.
