Since Netflix is a US only service they do not allow you to stream Netflix from countries outside the US, and that of course includes France. However, using the following trick can change that.
See Netflix will determine your location by looking at your IP-address. In case you do not know what that is, I can tell you that it is a unique number that every device connected to the Internet needs in order to communicate. Incidentally this number is dead give away that you are located in France.
As you might have figured out by now, all we need to do is get an American IP and we will have access to Netflix. The way to do this is to use a Virtual Private Network, or VPN for short. By connecting to this type of network the server in the other end will act as a middleman between you and Netflix, and thus it will look like you are located in the US.
When streaming video you need a VPN provider with a lot of bandwidth, and I have tried quite a few before I ended up with Hide My Ass VPN. The 6 or 12 months packages have the best discount, but just go with the 1 months package if you want to test it out first.
Setting it up is really simple and once I registered I received an email with all the info for the setup. If you for some reason should find yourself stuck they have 24/7 live support – not that you will need it.
Well this part is pretty obvious and it is straightforward. Just remember that you need to be connected with your Hide My Ass account before creating an account with Netflix. Otherwise the signup will fail at the last step.
So if you are French and want to get in on all the fun, or perhaps you have relocated to France, then this is the way to go about it if you want to enjoy Netflix. It is also worth noticing that this trick will unblock all the other US only services as well such as Hulu, ABC, CBS, NBC and so forth.
