Netflix is an awesome service that lets you stream movies straight to your computer, iphone, ipad, playstation 3, xbox 360 and many other devices.
Unfortunately the service is restricted to streaming inside the US only, but there is a way around that, and we will teach you how.
This may sound complicated to some, but trust us when we say the final solution is really easy. The way Netflix blocks you out is by checking your location via your IP address. An IP address is assigned via your Internet provider when connecting to the Internet. So the way to trick Netflix is to obtain an IP located in the US. Since traveling to New York in order to watch Netflix is not really an option we will instead be using a VPN connection.
VPN stands for Virtual Private Network and what a VPN connection does is connect you to a remote server that will act as a middleman between you and Netflix. When the server is located in the US then Netflix will think you are American and let you stream their movies. It is that simple.
When streaming movies it is important to use a connection with plenty of bandwidth. I tried out a couple of providers with mixed results before ending up with Hide My Ass VPN as they gave me by far the best quality. The have 6 or 12 months packages with the best discount and a 1 month package if you just want to test it ourself.
Of course you also need a Netflix account but remember you have to be connected with VPN before trying this. Also use a 5-digit zipcode when signing up. I used 90210.
Don’t forget that the VPN connection can also be used for streaming Netflix on your iPad, iPhone or any other Netflix capable device in your household. Actually a VPN account at Hide My Ass VPN will unblock any country specific website or service blocked by geo location.
